Later That Evening...

(Note: The following conversation happens the evening after Dave gets attacked.)

Page 1

Panel 1

(Sarah and Iain are sitting in her living room. Iain's laptop is open on the table and he is typing. She is eating a slice of pizza and untangling cheese from her chin now and then. There are drinks and a pizza on the table.)

Sarah: How's it going?

Iain: It's connected now. I'm just getting the chat room open.

Sarah: Have you noticed that whenever someone says this shouldn't take long and computers are involved, it ends up taking all the time you have and some more?

Panel 2

(Iain laughs.)

Iain: Yeah, I should know better. Next time I'll say it will take all evening and it'll be working in a jiffy.

Sarah: Or a nano-jiffy.

Iain: Right that's it. Let's see what's going on.

Panel 3

(There is a few moments silence as Iain types and reads. Sarah takes a sip of cola and looks at Iain in concern.)

Iain: Still no word on Dave.

Sarah: Do you have the number for the hospital? Perhaps we could call and ask.

Iain: Anders tried and couldn't get through. He says the line's been busy for hours.

Sarah: That doesn't sound good.

Panel 4

(Iain continues reading and Sarah stands up. She makes her way slowly to the window and peers out at the street.)

Sarah: I don't see anything out there.

Panel 5

(Iain smirks.)

Iain: That's odd!

Panel 6

(Sarah turns and frowns at him; her eyebrow is raised.)

Sarah: And that's sarcastic! I mean that if there're any demons I'll be able to see them.

Iain: Yeah, sorry. Why don't you kneel down and peer out the bottom?

Sarah: They wouldn't notice me in here would they?

Iain: Well you never know. Just in case.

Panel 1

(Sarah shrugs and kneels down. She looks up and down the street.)

Iain: Daniel's got everything under control. It wouldn't surprise me if he's been preparing for this for years. He's probably been hoarding holy water and crosses.

Sarah: I can just see him in a darkened room staring at a map of the city. He's probably got little demon figures to put on the board and move about.

Panel 2

(Iain laughs and then looks annoyed.)

Iain: And men figures, and little barricades. Yes! That's an ideal present for him. He's a nuisance to buy for. I usually get books for people and, oddly enough, he has everything.

Panel 3

(Iain sighs and shakes his head. Sarah smiles to herself and looks up and down the street. She rests her elbows on the windowsill.)

Sarah: It's nice of you to come round and keep me company. Things are insane just now.

Iain: No problem, I'm enjoying seeing things through your eyes anyway.

Sarah: Me too.

Panel 4

(She pauses. She nods and turns to look at him.)

Sarah: You are? Really?

Iain: Yeah, since you're new to everything, you have a fresh perspective on the mystical world. And the whole Sarah-vision thing is cool, and the healing, and who knows what else.

Sarah: I like that! Coming to a cinema near you, in all-new Technicolor Sarah Vision.

Panel 5

(Iain looks down to catch up on the Maze chat room.)

Iain: Bloody hell! There're reports coming in of attacks all over the city.

Sarah: Has anyone else been hurt?

Iain: Minor stuff, nothing as bad as Dave.

Sarah: Any news yet?

Iain: No, Melita's gone to the hospital with a friend of hers to see if she can help. Cause Dave doesn't have any family in the city.

Panel 6

(There's a crash from outside; Sarah turns to look out and Iain stops reading to look up.)

Iain: What was that?

Sarah: I'm not sure yet.

Iain: Maybe it's a car crash?

Sarah: There they are. That's oddly disappointing. Three or four demons are running up the road yelling and shouting. It looks like they're knocking over all the wheelie bins as they go.

Page 3

Panel 1

(Iain comes over to see them, shakes his head and then shuts the curtains.)

Iain: Better safe than sorry! And now I'm glad I parked round the back.

Sarah: I meant to ask, did you have any trouble on the way over?

Iain: Nah, you're actually not too far from mine and I used misdirection just in case.

Panel 2

(Sarah and Iain sit back down on the sofa.)

Sarah: Misdirection?

Iain: I just thought I was further ahead of myself than I was. Projected myself a little.

Sarah: That sounds weird.

Iain: It's difficult, I can't do it too long. You know that was something Dave used to be really good at.

Panel 3

(Iain looks down at his laptop and Sarah feels in the pizza box for another bit. She sticks her fingers in a slice and makes a face. Iain suddenly looks really happy.)

Iain: Daniel says Melita's phoned from the hospital. Dave's regained consciousness after some surgery and they're saying he's stable. They think he'll recover.

Panel 4

(Sarah puts her left hand on his arm and squeezes it.)

Iain: You know, I've got the feeling that's not the whole story. But I'm pretty sure he'll be okay.

Panel 5

(Iain switches off his laptop and closes it.)

Iain: Let's get some snacks and put some music on. I've got this old tape machine with me. It makes sticky labels with raised letters on it. I was going to label CD's for you. Then hopefully you can tell them apart.

Sarah: That's such a good idea! Thanks.

Iain: I have plans you know. I'm going to sort out your computer and email. Then I'm going to get a really good html reader. It will be so much fun to...

Panel 6

(Iain and Sarah continue their evening together.)
