Hello and welcome to Dark Red. My name is Lynn French and I am the creator, writer and artist. Jo McKenzie is the letterer although she's starting to get more involved in the whole process. This script is for the blind and for anyone else interested in reading it. Dark Red is a fantasy and supernatural webcomic; it has both jokes and tears in it, just like life. It's about the fight between good and evil, and about keeping your sense of humour against overwhelming odds. There's always the possibility of weird happenings, mayhem, bedlam, confusion and people running around without much clue of what's going on.

Initially, the title page for the first issue slipped my mind. Slightly thoughtless you might think. Well, I was the writer for the comic and it never occurred to me that I would be doing the art as well. I had worked with several artists and it never really panned out. So it was one of the last things to get thought of when I was battling to do the art myself.

Dark Red is a photographic comic. But the photos are filtered and painted on to look like art. Well they don't look like photos anymore to me. There are also drawn elements in Dark Red, for example, Sarah's hair, Iain's beard, the various effects and later demons and other beings. It's a full page, usually six or seven panels and updates every Friday.

Getting back to the title page. My first attempt at this was pretty terrible, or that's what I think looking back on it. But after a few attempts this one turned up, Sarah emerging from the dark looking slightly apprehensive. She is looking to her right with darkness all around her. She has blue jeans, a dark cropped top, a black long coat, black boats and her white stick, as Sarah is blind. She has a beautiful face, sweet and oval shaped, expressive sea green eyes, a full mouth and pale skin. She has dark red hair with a white wavy streak on the left side of her head.

Sarah MacAllister is played by a model/journalist called Bella Roivas, who is actually a brunette with blue eyes. I am honoured to work with her, as I am with the other members of the cast.

The other version of the title page has characters from issue one around her and some candles. I might use it at some point for something. (Note: If you check out the Gallery for issue one, it has the original picture and the alternate title page in it.)
