AboutThe ComicDark Red is an urban fantasy and supernatural webcomic that updates every Friday. Although it's a little spooky and otherworldly, Dark Red has real-life stuff in it, like jokes and tears, chocolate and the occasional pint. It's about the fight between good and evil, and about keeping your sense of humour against overwhelming odds. Sarah MacAllister has had enough of everyone looking after her. Being blind doesn't mean that she can't do things for herself. But as she leaves her house there is a light. Should she follow it? Meanwhile Iain is missing again. His mystic friends have been told he's dead and they might not be too happy to see him. And does anyone know what's wrong with the city? Demons are invading! Dark Red has a traditional full-page comic layout, 28 pages per issue and the full story will run for 6 issues. You'll also get bonus material in the form of stories, interviews with the characters, behind the scenes pictures, and probably some surprises. Enjoy!
If you want to catch up with Dark Red each week you can use our RSS The PeopleMy name's Lynn, I'm the creator and artist of Dark Red. I started writing the comic back in 2005, April I think it was. In a fit of enthusiasm I told all my friends about it and a bunch of them got involved. After a while I stopped wondering about this and decided that it must be worth it. There was also too much to be getting on with. My partner in crime, Jo, is not just the letterer. She edits, advises and gives me a friendly nudge when things could be better. She's got involved in planning out the plot for the issues and helping direct the actors while I get on with the photography. On set she occasionally reads out the script causing a lot of laughter for the cast and blushes on my part. I couldn't do this without her. I have my wonderful web guy, Matthew, who keeps this all running smoothly and is trying to improve the site all the time. And my props guy Aaron who gets things ready before each photoshoot. The four of us make up the Dark Red Production Team, and you can contact us if you have any questions. A lot of people have put work into making this happen. I am eternally grateful to them. Thanks go to the production team, the wonderful cast, my supportive friends and everyone who enjoys Dark Red online. The ProcessThe majority of images that you see are based on pictures I have directed and taken of the cast. To turn the photographs into comic panels takes between fifteen minutes and an hour or two depending on the complexity. The process is an odd combination of paintshop filters and rotoscoping. Even though I've been asked many times I'm not going to say how I do it at the moment. Every now and then there will be a drawn element in the comic. Mostly these will be the pixies, demons, fairies and extra stuff that adds a bit of otherness to the Dark Red world. You'll see as you look through the pages. The WebsiteThe website has gone through several versions and we keep on trying to make it better. There's the FAQ, a contacts page, and an archive. We also add in the scripts for each comic page. This is mainly for the blind to enjoy the comic too. But they're there for the curious as well. Thanks for taking the time to look at the comic and the site. If something's broken let Matthew or me know and we'll try to sort it out for you. Or if you want something that's not here, we'll see what we can do. There's also the forums and blog for those of you that like to get involved. Feel free to join and post. I'll be glad to see you there.
